Ingredients

500 gm chopped chicken
2 teaspoon ginger paste
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
1/4 teaspoon Tomato Puree
1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon nigella seeds
5 teaspoon refined oil
1/4 cup yoghurt (curd)
1 medium chopped onion
2 teaspoon garlic paste
1 teaspoon red chilli powder
2 Red Chilli
1/2 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
4 pinches salt
1 handful chopped coriander leaves

    Achari (sometimes known as achar) means pickle.  Basically, this is a chicken dish that is made with the all spices one would normally use in an Indian pickle.  It is extremely aromatic and delicious dish and as is the case with most pickled foods the flavor improves over time. So this is one of the perfect ‘make-ahead’ dish that will taste even better a day or two after it was prepared. It goes well with plain rice or prathas.     How to make Chicken Achari recipe step by step

    Step 1: Heat oil in a pan over medium flame.

    Step 2: Add the dry red chilies black mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and cumin seeds, fennel seeds and kalonji in the pan. Fry the ingredients for about 10 or 20 seconds.

    Step 3: Add the onions and saute them until the light brown.

    Step 4: Add the ginger garlic paste and then stir well. After that add the red chili powder, turmeric powder and stir for about 10-20 seconds. Add a splash of water if it is starts sticking to the bottom. If needed add water.

    Step 7: Add the tomato puree and cook for 1 or 2 minutes.

    Step 8: Add the chicken pieces, stir well and cook for 5 to 6 minutes.

    Step 9: Pour 1 or 4 cups of water and cover the pan with a lid.

    Step 10: Simmer on low flame for about 15 or 20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

    Step 11: Add the yogurt, stir well, and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes.

    Step 12: Remove the pan from the flame. Add the lemon juice and salt. Stir again to mix well.

    Step 13: Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve Chicken Achari with naan or roti.
